AECOM, a member of the Fortune 500, is an American multinational engineering firm that provides design, consulting, construction, and management services to a wide range of clients. The name AECOM is an acronym for “Architecture, Engineering, Consulting, Operations, and Maintenance.” Known for many high-profile projects across the globe, their most recent noteworthy project was the construction of the new World Trade Center complex in Lower Manhattan, New York City.
The AECOM.com project consisted of Information Architecture, Content Planning, Data Organization and Responsive Interface Design. A unique aspect of the project was the development of a Localization Plan to define what local projects or language the site visitor would first be presented with based on their IP address. This was especially critical with AECOM’s presence in Quebec, where Canadian Law required that local companies first present their site in French, with the option to then select an alternate language.
Collaboratively working with AECOM’s Executive Leadership, Marketing, Communications, and Web Development groups via face-to-face and weekly international calls, the final deliverable was a 160-page Functional Design Specifications book that defined and illustrated all template pages, individual page elements, and specific development functionality. The book was then handed off to AECOM’s Web Development team for execution and implementation.
